Gifts under $25 in the US

What $25 buys well

Small budgets work on things that are small by nature: pens, notebooks, hand tools, coffee, sauces and puzzles. A Uni-ball One set, a Blackwing memo pack or the iFixit Moray kit are the same things people buy for themselves, not a cut-down gift version.

Skip headphones, speakers and gadget gift sets at this price. They are the cheapest version of something better. If the thing you want costs $60, pick a different category instead.

Match it to the person

For coworkers and Secret Santa, stay neutral: Kicking Horse coffee, gel pens, a hot sauce sampler. Dandelion's cherries work for someone who avoids dairy or nuts.

For a home cook, the Burlap & Barrel cacio e pepe seasoning or Savannah Bee's whipped honey trio, which comes gift-packed. Skip the honey for a household with a baby under one.

For a grandparent, a Springbok bird puzzle or jumbo-index playing cards. For someone moving house, the OLFA cutter. For travelers, the Matador sling and the neck pillow both pack small.

Make a small gift look planned

Pair two things that belong together and stay under the limit: a memo book with a gel pen, coffee with a handwritten card, Bee's Wrap with the honey. Two related things read as a plan. One thing alone can read as an afterthought.

Check the version before you buy. The Twelve South BookArc Flex fits this budget in white and chrome, not black, and only makes sense for someone who docks a MacBook to a monitor.

Shipping and last-minute

At this price, shipping can double the cost, so buy two gifts from one shop where you can. Order by early December for the holidays.

If you are late, the Kiva Card arrives by email. The recipient lends it to a small business, then lends again when repaid. Print it and put it in a card so there is something to hand over.

Questions people ask

What is a good gift under $25 for a coworker?

Keep it neutral and useful. Good coffee, a box of chocolates, a nice pen, or a pocket notebook set suit almost anyone. Avoid scented products and anything personal like clothing. Check for nut allergies before buying chocolate. If your office does Secret Santa, a small useful item like a set of gel pens tends to go down better than a joke gift.

Can you get a decent gift for under $25?

Yes, if you pick a category where good versions are cheap. Pens, notebooks, small tools, coffee, tea, chocolate and books all have quality options under $25. Skip electronics and big gift sets, where this budget only buys the weakest version. One well-made small thing beats a bundle of filler, and a handwritten card adds more than an extra $10 would.

What is a good under-$25 gift for a student?

Something for a small room or a lot of travel. A compact multi-port charger, over-door hooks, a neck pillow for trips home, a good notebook or a set of fine gel pens all get used weekly. A food delivery gift card is welcome in exam season. Avoid decor; residence rooms are small and often have rules about walls.

Is a gift card under $25 too small?

Not if it buys something whole. A $25 card at a bookshop, coffee roaster or stationery shop covers a book, a bag of beans or a notebook. A small card at a big electronics store is less useful because it rarely covers anything on its own. Pick a shop where the amount gets them something real.
