How we choose gifts
Every gift on this site went through the same steps. We describe them plainly so you can decide how much to trust a pick.
1. It has to be a real product you can buy
We open the product on the shop's own website and confirm the exact name, the listed price and that it is available. We record the date we checked. Items that are sold out, pre-order only, or on a page that no longer exists are left out. We do not use marketplace listings, which change sellers and disappear.
2. We say what the catch is
Every pick carries one honest caveat: sizing, batteries, a subscription it needs, a slow ship time, or that it is made to order. We write descriptions in our own words rather than copying the shop's marketing.
3. What we do not claim
We have not personally tested most of these products. We research them, check them on the shop's page, and explain who they suit. Where a product is well known for a problem, we say so. We do not publish star ratings we did not earn, and we do not invent reviews or testimonials.
4. The order is not for sale
Results are ranked by how well a gift matches what you asked for: who it is for, what they like, the occasion, your budget and the words you typed. Commission rates, sponsorships and which shop sells a product are not part of the ranking. A gift with no commission ranks exactly as it would with one.
5. Prices and countries
A price is shown in the shop's own currency, exactly as the shop listed it on the date shown. Prices change, and the shop's page is always the final word. To place a gift into a budget band when the shop uses a different currency from yours, we convert using the Bank of Canada daily exchange rates from 2026-09-15. That conversion is only for sorting; it is never shown as a price.
6. Keeping it current
We recheck prices and availability before the holiday season and whenever someone reports a problem. If a price, link or product is wrong, please tell us and we will check it.
7. Our own shops
The company behind HelpFindGifts also runs a small number of other online shops. When one of their products appears here it is labelled “Our sister shop” on the card, and it is ranked by the same rules as everything else.
