Gifts under $25 in the UK

What a tenner to £25 buys well

The UK has the most good small things of any country we cover. A Leuchtturm notebook, a Papersmiths pen and a Blackwing pencil are the same things people buy for themselves. Rococo's salted caramel eggs, a tin of Grind coffee and a Suki Tea Christmas box get used up, so nobody has to find a shelf for them.

Skip the gadget gift sets and cheap headphones. At this price they are the worst version of something better.

Match it to the person

For coworkers and Secret Santa: a pen, coffee, tea or the Luckies solitaire puzzle. For a teacher: Neal's Yard hand cream, if they like an orange scent.

For a gardener: Burgon & Ball flower scissors, or a Wildlife World feeder for a grandparent who watches the birds from the kitchen. For a cyclist: Muc-Off brushes. For a runner who heads out in the dark: Ronhill gloves.

For a student: the Anker four-port charger for a room short on sockets. It ships without cables. For a crafter: the Hawthorn badger embroidery kit, about an evening or two of stitching.

Make a small gift look planned

Pair two things that belong together: the Leuchtturm with the Papersmiths pen, the colour dictionary with the risograph calendar, the Emma Bridgewater mug with a tin of coffee or tea. Two related things read as a plan.

Check what they own before buying anything that plugs in or clips on. The Anker charger needs their own cables, and the Muc-Off brushes need a cleaner to go with them.

Write a card. The Tom Pigeon set gives you four, which covers this gift and the next three.

Post and last-minute

Postage can double the cost of a small gift, so buy two from one shop where you can. Order by early December for Christmas post. Chocolate posts fine in a British winter.

If you are late, the Audible credit arrives by email.

Questions people ask

What is a good gift under $25 for a coworker?

Keep it neutral and useful. Good coffee, a box of chocolates, a nice pen, or a pocket notebook set suit almost anyone. Avoid scented products and anything personal like clothing. Check for nut allergies before buying chocolate. If your office does Secret Santa, a small useful item like a set of gel pens tends to go down better than a joke gift.

Can you get a decent gift for under $25?

Yes, if you pick a category where good versions are cheap. Pens, notebooks, small tools, coffee, tea, chocolate and books all have quality options under $25. Skip electronics and big gift sets, where this budget only buys the weakest version. One well-made small thing beats a bundle of filler, and a handwritten card adds more than an extra $10 would.

What is a good under-$25 gift for a student?

Something for a small room or a lot of travel. A compact multi-port charger, over-door hooks, a neck pillow for trips home, a good notebook or a set of fine gel pens all get used weekly. A food delivery gift card is welcome in exam season. Avoid decor; residence rooms are small and often have rules about walls.

Is a gift card under $25 too small?

Not if it buys something whole. A $25 card at a bookshop, coffee roaster or stationery shop covers a book, a bag of beans or a notebook. A small card at a big electronics store is less useful because it rarely covers anything on its own. Pick a shop where the amount gets them something real.
