Gifts under $10

Updated October 7, 2026 · prices checked October 8, 2026 · how we choose · update log

The best gifts under $10 are small things the person uses every week: a Rubik's cube, a good pencil, a pack of guitar picks, a bar of decent chocolate. Below are 25 we would actually buy, each matched to the kind of person it suits.

We may earn a commission from shop links; it never decides what makes the list. Details

Buy the small version of their hobby

Ten dollars will not buy anyone a hobby. It will buy a piece of one they already have. A guitarist goes through picks. A record collector needs a brush. A baker uses a bench scraper every time bread comes out of the bowl. A hockey kid will wear out a stickhandling ball in the driveway by February.

This is the safest way to spend a small amount. The gift gets used, it does not need to impress anyone, and it shows you noticed what they do on a Saturday. The risk is buying the wrong size or gauge, so read the caveats. A 1mm pick is heavy for a beginner. A knife sharpener for straight edges is no help with a bread knife.

If you do not know their hobby well enough to pick the consumable, buy something for the whole household instead: a card game, a puzzle, a bar of chocolate to share.

Games are the best value on the list

Nothing else under $10 gets used by as many people for as many hours. Herd Mentality fills a loud Christmas living room. Monopoly Deal gives a family the trading and spite of Monopoly in twenty minutes. Travel Bingo keeps the back seat quiet for a stretch of highway. The Rubik's cube is a game for one, and it can take someone years.

Match the game to the group. Party games need a crowd and go flat with three people. Bingo games bore teenagers after a round. A cube suits the kid who likes to sit and fiddle, not the one who needs to run.

Food and tea: fine, with two checks

Chocolate and tea are the default small gift for a reason. Everyone has a coworker or teacher they want to thank, and a good bar from an independent maker beats a supermarket box. We picked Love Cocoa in the UK, Purdys hedgehogs in Canada and Sweet William's dairy-free koalas in Australia.

Check two things before buying. First, allergens. Several of these contain milk or hazelnuts, and a gift a classroom cannot eat is worse than no gift. Second, shipping. On a small order the postage can cost more than the gift. Kozlik's mustard and the Questacon toys both carry that warning, so add them to a bigger order or buy something else.

What we left out

Plenty of things under $10 are junk: novelty socks that pill, plastic desk toys, mugs with jokes that land once. We skipped most of them. A few joke gifts made the wider pool, like office gum, and those are fine as an extra on a card. They are not a gift on their own.

We also skipped most gift cards at this level. Ten dollars rarely covers one item, and some cards add their own catch, like delivery fees on a meal card or a minimum spend at a museum. The exceptions are the ones that cover a whole thing: one Audible credit is one full audiobook, and a small bookshop card can pay for a used paperback.

Every price here was correct on the shop's page when we checked, but small items move fast. If something has crept over $10, the next pick down usually does the same job.

Questions people ask

What is a good gift under $10 for a coworker?
Something they can use at their desk or eat. A good pencil, a pack of sticky notes, a bar of chocolate from an independent maker or a small tea gift all work. Avoid scented soaps and lotions unless you know their taste, and check allergens on anything edible if they might share it with the office.
Is a gift under $10 cheap or rude?
No. Most office Secret Santas and teacher gifts sit around this level, and a small useful thing reads better than a big pointless one. The trick is to pick something specific to the person, like picks for a guitarist or a sharpener for someone who camps, rather than generic filler from a checkout rack.
What can I get a kid for under $10?
A Rubik's cube for a child of eight or more, a small clay kit, a travel bingo game for car trips, or a glider or bouncing putty for younger kids. Look at the age on each pick. Several of the small toys in our pool are fine for older children but have parts that do not suit toddlers.
Are digital gift cards under $10 worth giving?
Sometimes. One Audible credit buys a full audiobook, which makes a good instant gift. A small card to an independent bookshop can cover a used paperback. Most other small cards fall short of a single item or lose value to delivery fees, so we would rather buy a physical thing at this budget.
