Secret Santa gifts under $25 in Australia

What $25 buys

Twenty-five dollars buys one good small thing, not a bag of filler. Aim for something they would use in the next month: an Australian-plug charger, a lunch cutlery set, a hand cream, a bucket hat for summer. Three cheap novelties cost the same and land worse.

Prices move near December, so check the page before you order. If something has crept over the limit, the next pick in the same category usually does the same job.

When you barely know them

Most Secret Santa draws pair you with someone you know by first name and coffee order. Lean on what you can see. If they bring lunch, a food gift or a lunch tool fits. If their desk is a tangle of cables, a charger or a tool gets used. If they drink tea all afternoon, a tin of tea covers a month.

With nothing to go on, pick a fast game that teaches in a few minutes, or a plain food gift without common allergens.

Mistakes at this budget

The joke gift gets a laugh for ten seconds and then someone has to carry it home. The second mistake is buying for yourself: the coffee you love may be wasted on someone who drinks instant with milk.

Think about the heat. Chocolate melts in a car or a letterbox in December, so hand it over in person. Avoid scent-heavy items like candles unless you know their taste, and pick allergy-safe chocolate when you know nothing.

Timing and wrapping

Order at least two weeks before the exchange; Australia Post runs slow in December. If you are late, the Audible gift arrives by email. Some picks come ready to give: the mug is gift boxed and the socks are the card.

A plain tin of tea in a paper bag with a handwritten label reads better than a bigger item in a stuffed gift bag. If you land under the limit, pair two things that go together rather than adding filler.

Questions people ask

What is a good Secret Santa gift for under $25?

Something small that gets used soon: a fast card game like The Chameleon, a tin of tea, a good hand cream, a charger or a useful tool like the iFixit Moray kit. Food and drink are safe when you know little about the person. Avoid joke gifts, since they rarely leave the office and often end up in the bin by January.

Is it okay to go over the Secret Santa limit?

Try not to. The limit exists so nobody feels outspent or embarrassed at the swap. Going a little under is fine; going well over puts pressure on everyone else next year. If you found something great that costs more, save it for a friend and pick something from this list that fits the number the group agreed on.

What do you get a coworker you don't know well for Secret Santa?

Look at their desk and their lunch. Cables, mugs, tea and cutlery sets suit what you can see. If you see nothing useful, pick a quick group game or a plain food gift without common allergens. Skip scented items, alcohol and anything personal like jewellery, since those depend on taste you probably do not know yet.

Can you give a gift card for Secret Santa?

Yes, though it can feel low-effort in a group that unwraps together. A specific card helps: the Kiva Card lets the recipient lend to a small business they choose and then lend again once repaid. It arrives by email, so it also works for a last-minute or remote exchange. Print it and put it in a card.
