Short answer
A Canadian brand is headquartered here; a Canadian-made product is manufactured here. Check the product page or label for the country of manufacture. Both usually mean no border delays or duties for you.
Brand versus manufacture
Many well-known Canadian companies design products in Canada and manufacture some or all of them elsewhere. Others make everything here. Both are legitimately Canadian businesses; the difference matters if you specifically want goods produced in Canada.
The Competition Bureau of Canada publishes guidelines on when a product can be labelled 'Made in Canada' or 'Product of Canada'. Products that meet the stricter standard often say so prominently.
How to check
The quickest checks take seconds.
- Look for 'Made in Canada' or 'Product of Canada' on the product page, not just the brand's About page.
- Read the materials and care section; country of origin is often listed there.
- For small makers, the shop's About page usually says where they work.
What this site marks as Canadian
